Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics
Teaching aims
The participants have advanced knowledge of the physical phenomena of damage in materials and its mathematical descriptions. They are able to perform life time estimations within the crack initiation and the crack propagation phase taking into account various factors influencing fatigue life like load histories, shape and state of the components under consideration, material, environmental aspects, etc.
With the acquired capabilities the students are able to investigate and discuss complex and interdisciplinary engineering problems in the field of fatigue and fracture mechanics.
Content
- Cyclic deformation of solids
- Phenomenological approaches (cyclic stress and cyclic strain)
- Life time estimation
- Linear elastic fracture mechanics
- Elastic-plastic and creep fracture mechanics
- Crack propagation
